You’re Free Indeed!

‘If therefore the Son shall make you free, you shall be free indeed’ (John 8:36)

What is been free?

- It means not under the control or power of something or somebody else.
- Not restricted or controlled by anybody.
- Not a prisoner or slave.
- Not tied up.
- Clear, not blocked.
These are some of the definitions of the word ‘free’ or been free.

Jesus Christ came to declare our freedom. He came to deliver us from all the power hindering us.
When you’re free, you attain freedom – freedom can simply be defined as ‘free domain’, the domain in which you enjoy the above definitions of ‘free’.

Many are imprisoned, held captive, enslaved and bonded by:
- the power of sin
- the power of fear
- the power of failure
- the power of darkness
- the power of inferiority complex
- the power of superiority complex
- the power of the evil one
- the power of religion
and so on. They are not free.
Christ came to destroy all the powers that are holding us in bondage.
He destroyed these powers roughly 2000 or more years ago on the cross of Calvary.

He rose on the third day to validate, zeal and made more sure this freedom.
He ascended into heaven, seated at the right side of God to prove the finished work of freedom.
If you believe Him, and make Him the Lord and Saviour of your life, you’ll enjoy this freedom.
- Freedom from sin,
- Freedom from fear,
- Freedom from death,
- Freedom from failure,
- Freedom from complex,
- Freedom from the power of darkness,
- Freedom from the evil one,
- Freedom from mere religiosity,
- Freedom from poverty and want,
- Freedom from sickness.
And more.

Alas! Many who have placed their faith in Christ are not enjoying this freedom.
This reminds me of the story of a Cockerel I heard sometime ago.

This Cockerel was cooped, i.e. it was locked inside the coop, caged.
He cannot wander, roam, and move freely about. He was imprisoned, held captive, restricted. He cannot behave the way he wants, cannot play with fellow cockerels or the hens. No way for it to scratch the ground he enjoys most to feed.
Simply put, it was incarcerated, and incapacitated.

The “docked” mentality took over his sense and he resigned himself to fate.
Then, suddenly, the door of the coop was thrown wide open by the owner of the cockerel so that the cockerel might be set free and gain freedom.

Not fully understanding and grasping the full import of what was happening, the cockerel came to the door of the coop, peeped out, looked to the right, looked to the left and went back inside the coop.

This he did twice.

The third time, it dawned on him that the door of freedom is wide open. He got the revelation of freedom.
This time, he came out of the coop into the open space.
On coming out, he spreads his wings, gave them a good stretch, shook his body, waved the wings up and down vigorously and gave a very loud and clear – “cock-a-doodle-doo” celebrating his freedom.

Likewise, you my friend, come out of your confinement.
You have been set free. The door of your freedom is wide open. Come out and celebrate your freedom.
It’s freedom celebration time.

Christ has done it. He has broken the gates of brass and cut the bars of iron asunder.
He is coming again.
Very soon the trumpet shall sound, the ultimate freedom will be ushered in.
‘Behold, I tell you a mystery; we shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet; for the trumpet will sound, and the dead in will be raised imperishable, and we shall be changed. For this perishable must put on the imperishable must put on the imperishable, and this mortal must put on immortality. But when this perishable will have put on the imperishable, and this mortal must put on immortality, then will come about the saying that is written, “DEATH IS SWALLOWED UP in victory.
“O DEATH, WHERE IS YOUR VICTORY? O DEATH, WHERE IS YOUR STING? The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law; but thanks be to God, who gives us the victory (freedom?!) through our Lord Jesus Christ’ (ICor. 15: 51-57 nasb
